Subsea Umbilicals, Risers, Flowlines & Cables Analysis

This service includes an comprehensive assessment of subsea umbilicals, risers, flowlines and cables (SURFC) to loads experienced from installation, through life until project de-commissioning. The service includes storm (ULS, ALS) and operational (SLS, FLS) condition response, with consideration of the integrity of all components that make up the SURFC asset.

COMPREHENSIVE INTEGRITY ASSESSMENT

We undertake robust assessments of the critical components that make up SURFC assets to provide confidence in their performance over the required design life. Analysis is undertaken for both oil & gas and renewables in accordance with latest industry best practices, including API, ISO and DNV standards.

DYNAMIC ANALYSIS

Dynamic global analysis is used to assess the response of SURFC systems to wind, wave, current and external loading. Extreme ALS / ULS, and operational SLS / FLS scenarios are considered for all applicable ranges of input data to ensure reliability in harsh offshore environments.

FATIGUE ANALYSIS AND LIFETIME ASSSESSMENT

Using analytical or local FE cross section response models we evaluate the fatigue performance of all applicable SURFC asset components to determine if they will meet the required design life. Cloud compute capacity and a suit of internal software tools allow thousands of load cases to be processed efficiently to ensure risk can be evaluated in the most reliable manner.

LOCAL CROSS SECTION RESPONSE

We use local FE analysis to evaluate SURFC asset response to a much greater level of detail than just assessing against manufacturer supplied global asset limits. Non-linear analysis provides component specific stress and strain responses to any applied load to allow a detailed assessment on integrity to be made, regardless of the circumstances. This can include one-off unforeseen extreme loading scenarios such as dropped objects or impacts.

THERMAL ANALYSIS

Thermal analysis is undertaken in accordance with IEC standards to ensure critical operating temperatures are not exceeded. A range of installation scenarios can be considered, and for complex situations, detailed CFD modelling is utilised to include effects such as convection.

RISK ASSESSMENT AND MITIGATION

Analysis results are reviewed and interpreted by our experienced team of engineers to give valuable insights to the SURFC asset performance. Where risks are identified we work together with clients to develop mitigation strategies that are optimal from both a performance and cost perspective.
